About Annan
- Annan is the birthplace of Edward Irving (1792–1834), the Scottish minister and theologian who founded the Catholic Apostolic Church and was one of the most influential religious figures in early nineteenth-century Britain. Irving was a close friend of Thomas Carlyle — another native of the Dumfries and Galloway area — and his charismatic preaching attracted enormous crowds in London before his controversial theological views led to his expulsion from the Church of Scotland.
