About Axbridge
- King John's Hunting Lodge in Axbridge, despite its name, has no connection to King John — it was built around 1500 as a merchant's house and is one of the finest examples of a late medieval timber-framed building in Somerset. The building, which is managed by the National Trust and houses a local history museum, takes its name from the medieval tradition of associating fine old buildings with royal personages.
