About Concord
- Washington was designated a new town in 1964 and was developed in a series of self-contained villages or districts, each with its own local centre. Washington Old Hall, a manor house in the town, was the ancestral home of the family of George Washington — the first President of the United States — and is now a National Trust property. The Nissan UK manufacturing plant at Washington, opened in 1986, was one of the first major Japanese car manufacturing investments in Britain and is one of the most productive car plants in Europe, producing over 400,000 vehicles per year.
