- Fauldhouse Station sits on the Edinburgh to Glasgow via Shotts line, one of the most scenic rail routes in central Scotland. The line passes through moorland and former mining country, and trains run regularly to both Edinburgh Waverley and Glasgow Central.
- The village was historically a coal-mining community, with several collieries operating in the area during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The last pit in the area closed in the 1980s following the miners' strike, and the landscape has since been partially restored.
- Polkemmet Country Park, a few miles to the north near Whitburn, occupies the site of a former colliery and offers woodland walks, a golf course, a country park cafe, and a caravan site. It is one of the most popular outdoor recreation areas in West Lothian.
