About Markinch
- The Cameron Bridge Distillery at Markinch, operated by Diageo, is one of the largest grain whisky distilleries in the world. The distillery was established in 1824 by John Haig and has been producing grain whisky for blended Scotch whisky ever since. It is the home of Haig Club whisky, which was relaunched in 2014 in partnership with David Beckham.
- St Drostan's Church, which stands on the hill above Markinch village, is one of the oldest churches in Fife. The church has a Norman tower dating from the twelfth century, which is one of the finest examples of Romanesque architecture in Scotland. The church is still in use as a parish church.
- Balbirnie Park, on the edge of Markinch, contains a Neolithic stone circle dating from around 3000 BC. The stone circle was discovered during the construction of Glenrothes new town and was carefully relocated to its current position in the park. The park also contains a walled garden, woodland walks, and a craft centre.
- Markinch railway station, opened in 1847, is on the main Edinburgh to Dundee line and provides fast, frequent services to both cities. The station serves as the main rail access point for Glenrothes, which does not have its own railway station, and is one of the busiest stations in Fife.
