- The Old Course at St Andrews is the most famous golf course in the world and is considered the home of golf. Golf has been played on the links at St Andrews since at least the fifteenth century, and the course has hosted the Open Championship more times than any other venue. The course is owned by the Links Trust and is open to the public, with tee times allocated by ballot.

- St Andrews Cathedral, founded in 1158 and consecrated in 1318 in the presence of Robert the Bruce, was the largest church ever built in Scotland and the centre of the Scottish Catholic Church for over 200 years.
