About Boldon
- Boldon is mentioned in the Boldon Book of 1183, which was a survey of the lands of the Bishop of Durham and is one of the most important historical documents in the north-east of England. The Boldon Book is sometimes called the "Domesday Book of the North" because it provides a detailed record of the landholdings and obligations of the tenants of the Bishop of Durham in a similar way to the Domesday Book of 1086. The town of Boldon was divided into East Boldon and West Boldon in the medieval period, and the two communities have maintained separate identities to the present day.
