About Largo
- Alexander Selkirk, born in Lower Largo in 1676, was the Scottish sailor whose experiences as a castaway inspired Daniel Defoe's novel Robinson Crusoe. Selkirk was marooned on the uninhabited island of Mas a Tierra in the Pacific Ocean in 1704 after a dispute with his captain, and survived alone for four years and four months before being rescued in 1709.
