About Grosmont
- Grosmont is the northern terminus of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, one of the finest heritage steam railways in England. The railway runs for 18 miles through the heart of the North York Moors to Pickering, passing through some of the most spectacular moorland scenery in England. The railway was originally built by George Stephenson in 1836 and is one of the oldest railway routes in the world. - Grosmont was an important ironstone mining and smelting centre in the 19th century, and the remains of the ironworks are still visible in the village. The industry declined in the late 19th century as the richer ironstone seams of the Cleveland Hills were developed.
