About Brae
- Ronas Hill, which rises to 450 metres above sea level, is the highest point in Shetland and one of the most remote summits in the British Isles. The hill is composed of red granite and its summit plateau is an arctic-alpine environment that supports rare plants and nesting birds including dotterel and ptarmigan. On clear days the view from the summit extends across the whole of Shetland and, in exceptional conditions, to the Faroe Islands to the north. The hill is also home to a well-preserved Bronze Age burial cairn on its summit, one of the highest prehistoric monuments in Britain.
