About Bermondsey
- Bermondsey was one of the most important industrial areas of Victorian London, home to the largest concentration of leather tanneries in the world as well as food processing factories, jam manufacturers, and pickle works. The area around Bermondsey Street was known as "the Leather Market" and the smell of the tanneries was notorious throughout south London. The neighbourhood has undergone a remarkable transformation since the 1990s, and Bermondsey Street is now one of the most desirable addresses in south London, lined with galleries, restaurants, and boutiques housed in converted Victorian warehouses and factory buildings.
