Norton is a historic village on the north bank of the River Tees, now absorbed into the urban area of Stockton-on-Tees. Its medieval parish church and village green preserve the character of the original settlement, and the village is closely associated with the early history of the Stockton and Darlington Railway — the world's first public steam railway.

About Norton
- Norton Parish Church, which dates from the 11th century, is one of the oldest churches in Teesside. The church contains a remarkable collection of Saxon stonework, including a carved cross shaft that is one of the finest examples of Anglo-Saxon sculpture in the north of England. The churchyard contains the graves of several generations of the families who shaped the early history of Stockton and the surrounding area.
- Norton was the home of the Heavisides family, who were among the earliest supporters of the Stockton and Darlington Railway. The railway, which opened in 1825, passed through the outskirts of Norton on its way from Shildon to Stockton, and the town was one of the first communities in the world to be served by a steam-hauled public railway.
- Preston Park Museum, on the northern edge of Norton, is one of the finest social history museums in the north of England. The museum is set in a Victorian mansion and includes a recreated Victorian street with shops, a pub, and a chemist. The park surrounding the museum is one of the largest in Teesside and includes a butterfly world, a miniature railway, and extensive formal gardens.
- Norton Village Green, at the heart of the original village, is one of the best-preserved village greens in Teesside. The green is surrounded by Georgian and Victorian houses, and the duck pond at its centre is a popular gathering place for local residents. The green has been the focal point of the village community for centuries and is a reminder of Norton's rural origins before its absorption into the Stockton urban area.
