Local knowledge — Private Hire in Preston
Preston is a coastal suburb on the northern edge of Paignton in Torbay, South Devon, with its own sandy beach, a small village centre, and a quieter character than the main Paignton seafront. Preston Sands is a popular beach with good facilities and is slightly less crowded than the main Paignton Beach. The suburb has a range of local shops, restaurants, and holiday accommodation, and is well placed for exploring both Torquay to the north and Paignton town centre to the south.

About Preston
- Preston Sands is one of the quieter beaches in Torbay, popular with local families who prefer a less crowded alternative to the main Paignton Beach. The beach has a gently shelving sandy shore and is generally well sheltered from the prevailing south-westerly winds, making it a good choice for young children and less confident swimmers.
- The area around Preston was developed as a residential suburb in the late Victorian and Edwardian eras, when the arrival of the railway made Torbay accessible to middle-class families from the Midlands and the North. Many of the large Victorian villas that line the seafront were built as private residences or boarding houses for the growing tourist trade.
- Preston sits at the boundary between Torquay and Paignton, and the exact border between the two towns runs through the suburb. This gives Preston a dual identity — it is administratively part of Paignton but is geographically and socially closer to Torquay, and residents often identify with both towns.
