About Clermiston
- Clermiston developed primarily as a post-war council housing estate in the 1950s and 1960s, built to rehouse Edinburgh residents from overcrowded city centre tenements. The neighbourhood was designed with generous green spaces and community facilities, and many of the original residents developed strong community ties that persist to the present day.
- The Clermiston Tower, a Victorian folly that stands on Corstorphine Hill above the neighbourhood, was built in 1871 to commemorate Sir Walter Scott. The tower is a Category B listed structure and offers panoramic views over Edinburgh and the Firth of Forth on clear days. It is accessible via a woodland path from the Corstorphine Hill nature reserve.
- Corstorphine Hill, which rises above Clermiston, is one of Edinburgh's most important urban nature reserves and contains ancient woodland, grassland, and a variety of wildlife including roe deer, foxes, and numerous bird species. The hill is managed by the City of Edinburgh Council and provides a valuable green lung for the densely populated neighbourhoods at its foot.
