About Stoneyburn
- Stoneyburn grew as a coal-mining village in the nineteenth century, with several collieries operating in the surrounding area. The last pit in the area closed following the miners' strike of the 1980s, and the landscape has since been partially restored to grassland and woodland.
- Fauldhouse Station, a short drive from the village, sits on the Edinburgh to Glasgow via Shotts line — one of the most scenic rail routes in central Scotland — and provides regular services to both city centres.
- The village sits at around 280 metres above sea level, giving it panoramic views across the central belt on clear days. The Pentland Hills, the Campsie Fells, and the hills of Ayrshire are all visible from the higher ground around the village.
- Polkemmet Country Park, a short drive to the north near Whitburn, occupies the site of a former colliery and offers woodland walks, a golf course, a country park cafe, and a caravan site. It is one of the most popular outdoor recreation areas in West Lothian.
