- Traquair House, which has been occupied since 1107, is the oldest continuously inhabited house in Scotland. The house has been visited by 27 Scottish and English monarchs, including Mary Queen of Scots, who stayed here in 1566 with her infant son, the future James VI. The famous Bear Gates at the end of the avenue have been locked since 1745, when the 5th Earl of Traquair vowed they would not be opened until a Stuart king sat on the throne again — and they remain locked to this day.

The brewery uses the original equipment and recipes to produce a range of strong ales, including the famous Traquair House Ale — a dark, complex beer that has been brewed here for over 50 years.
