About Bosham
- Bosham has one of the most remarkable historical associations of any village in England. The Bayeux Tapestry depicts Harold Godwinson, the last Anglo-Saxon king of England, setting out from Bosham on the voyage to Normandy that led ultimately to the Norman Conquest of 1066. The church of Holy Trinity, which stands at the water's edge, is one of the oldest in Sussex and contains Saxon stonework that predates the Conquest. According to local tradition, the church also contains the grave of a daughter of King Canute, and the king himself is said to have had a palace at Bosham, though the story of him commanding the tide to turn back is more reliably associated with the village than with any other location.
