About Danby
- The Moors Centre at Danby Lodge is the main visitor centre for the North York Moors National Park. Housed in a former shooting lodge, the centre provides information about the national park, its wildlife, history, and walking routes. The surrounding grounds include a riverside meadow, a sensory garden, and a network of short walks, and the centre is one of the most visited attractions in the national park.
- Danby Castle, a ruined 14th-century fortified manor house on the edge of the village, was the home of Catherine Parr — the sixth and final wife of Henry VIII — before her marriage to the king. The castle is a Grade I listed structure and is one of the most historically significant buildings in the North York Moors. The ruins are visible from the road but are on private land.
- Duck Bridge, a medieval packhorse bridge over the River Esk at Danby, is one of the finest examples of its type in the north of England. The bridge dates from the 14th century and is a Grade I listed structure. The bridge is a popular subject for photographers and is one of the most picturesque spots in the Esk Valley.
- The Esk Valley Railway, which passes through Danby station, is one of the most scenic railway lines in Britain. The line runs through the heart of the North York Moors between Middlesbrough and Whitby, passing through a series of small stations in the Esk Valley.
