About Dirleton
- Dirleton Castle, which dates from the thirteenth century, is one of the most complete and best-preserved medieval castles in Scotland. The castle was built by the de Vaux family and later passed to the Halyburton and Ruthven families before being slighted by General Monck in 1650. The castle's gardens, which include a Victorian Arts and Crafts garden and a herbaceous border said to be the longest in the world, are particularly celebrated.
