About Gloucester
- Gloucester Cathedral, which has been the seat of the Bishop of Gloucester since 1541, contains one of the most important collections of medieval stained glass in Britain — including the Great East Window, installed around 1350 and one of the largest medieval stained glass windows in the world. The cathedral is also famous as the burial place of King Edward II, who was murdered at Berkeley Castle in 1327, and whose tomb became a major pilgrimage destination in the medieval period, generating the wealth that funded the rebuilding of the choir in the Perpendicular Gothic style — one of the earliest examples of this distinctively English architectural style. The cloisters, with their fan vaulting, were used as a filming location for the Harry Potter films.

The docks, which were built between 1812 and 1827, are now a heritage and leisure destination, with the Victorian warehouses converted into restaurants, shops, and museums, including the National Waterways Museum. The Gloucester and Sharpness Canal, which connects the docks to the Severn Estuary, is one of the widest and deepest ship canals in Britain.
