- The Courts Garden at Holt, now managed by the National Trust, is one of the most delightful and unusual gardens in Wiltshire. The garden was created in the early twentieth century by Major Thomas Mawson and subsequently developed by Lady Cecilie Goff, who gave it to the National Trust in 1943. The garden is divided into a series of outdoor rooms, each with its own distinct character — from the formal topiary and lily ponds near the house to the wilder arboretum and kitchen garden beyond. The house itself, an elegant eighteenth-century building, is not open to the public, which gives the garden an air of mystery and seclusion that makes it particularly appealing.
