The buildings are Grade I listed and are among the most architecturally distinguished in Teesside.

The museum is one of the finest in Teesside and includes a remarkable collection of Teesside pottery, glass, and metalwork. The building itself is a Grade I listed structure.
- The Church of St Cuthbert in Kirkleatham contains the Turner Mausoleum — a remarkable octagonal building attached to the north side of the church, built in 1740 to house the tombs of the Turner family.
