About Eston
- Eston Nab, the prominent hill above the town, offers one of the finest panoramic views in Teesside. From the summit — which rises to 370 feet above sea level — the view takes in the entire Tees Valley, the North Sea, and on clear days the Yorkshire Dales and the Pennines. The hill is topped by the remains of an Iron Age hillfort, one of several in the Cleveland Hills.
- Eston was at the heart of the Cleveland ironstone mining industry in the 19th century. The ironstone seams in the hills above the town were discovered in 1850 and were among the richest in England. The mines employed thousands of workers and produced millions of tonnes of ironstone that was smelted in the blast furnaces of Teesside. The last mine in the area closed in the 1960s.
- The Cleveland Hills above Eston are part of the North York Moors National Park and offer outstanding walking country. The Cleveland Way long-distance footpath passes along the ridge of the hills, and the views from the escarpment take in the Tees Valley and the North Sea.
