About Nunthorpe
- Nunthorpe is the terminus of the Esk Valley Railway branch from Middlesbrough, which continues through the North York Moors to Whitby. The line, which passes through some of the most spectacular scenery in the north of England, is one of the most scenic railway journeys in Britain. The journey from Nunthorpe to Whitby takes about 1 hour 20 minutes and passes through the heart of the North York Moors National Park.

- The name Nunthorpe derives from the Old Norse 'thorp' meaning a small settlement, and the 'nun' element refers to the nuns of Roseberry Priory, who owned land in the area in the medieval period. The priory, which stood near Great Ayton, was a small Benedictine nunnery that was dissolved in the 16th century.
