About St Monans
- St Monans Parish Church, which stands on the clifftop directly above the sea, is one of the most dramatically situated churches in Scotland. The church dates from the fourteenth century and was built by King David II of Scotland in fulfilment of a vow made after he survived a storm at sea. The church is still in use as a parish church and is one of the finest medieval buildings in Fife.
- The St Monans Windmill, which stands on the shore below the village, was built in the eighteenth century to pump seawater into the salt pans that operated along the shore. The windmill has been restored and is one of the few surviving examples of a salt-pan windmill in Scotland.
- Newark Castle, which stands on the headland to the east of St Monans, is a sixteenth-century tower house that was the home of the Newark family. The castle is a scheduled ancient monument and is one of the best-preserved tower houses in the East Neuk.
- St Monans has a long tradition of boat building, and the Miller family's boatyard operated in the village for over a century, building traditional East Neuk fishing boats. The last boat was built in the 1990s, but the tradition of craftsmanship is still celebrated in the village.
