About Strathmiglo
- Strathmiglo Tolbooth, which stands at the centre of the village, dates from the seventeenth century and is one of the best-preserved tolbooths in Fife. The tolbooth served as the town hall, courthouse, and prison for the village, and its distinctive tower is a landmark visible from the surrounding countryside.
- The River Eden, which flows through Strathmiglo, rises in the Lomond Hills and flows eastward through the Howe of Fife to the sea at Guardbridge near St Andrews. The river is a popular fishing destination for brown trout and is one of the most attractive rivers in Fife.
- Strathmiglo was an important centre of linen weaving in the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, when the handloom weaving industry was one of the most important in the Howe of Fife. The introduction of power looms ended the cottage weaving industry, but the village retained its character as a small agricultural community.
- The Lomond Hills, which rise above Strathmiglo to the south, are one of the most distinctive landmarks in Fife. The twin peaks of the East and West Lomond Hills are visible from much of the county, and the East Lomond Hill, topped by an Iron Age hillfort, offers panoramic views across the Howe of Fife and the Tay estuary.
