The house where she stayed, now the Mary Queen of Scots Visitor Centre, displays a lock of her hair and a death mask, and the story of her visit is one of the most dramatic episodes in Borders history.
- Jedburgh Castle Jail, built in 1823 on the site of the medieval castle, is one of the best-preserved Howard Reform prisons in Scotland. The prison was designed on the principles of John Howard, the 18th-century prison reformer, with separate cells for each prisoner — a radical departure from the communal dungeons of earlier jails. The jail closed in 1886 and is now a museum, with cells preserved as they were when the prison was in use.
- Ferniehirst Castle, two miles south of Jedburgh on the Jed Water, is the ancestral home of the Kerr family, Marquesses of Lothian.
