About Coatham
- Coatham is one of the oldest settlements on the Cleveland coast, with a history as a fishing community stretching back to the medieval period. The village was originally separate from Redcar but was absorbed into the town as Redcar expanded in the 19th and 20th centuries. The name Coatham is thought to derive from the Old English 'cot-ham', meaning a settlement of cottages.
