About Gordon
- Greenknowe Tower, a mile west of Gordon on the road to Earlston, is a well-preserved 16th-century tower house in the care of Historic Environment Scotland. The tower was built in 1581 by James Seton and his wife Janet Edmonstone, and the initials of the builders are carved above the entrance. The tower is a fine example of a Borders peel tower, with thick walls, a vaulted ground floor, and a staircase in the corner of the building.
- Gordon village takes its name from the Gordon family, who held lands in this part of Berwickshire from the 12th century. The Gordons of Gordon were the ancestors of the Dukes of Gordon and the Marquesses of Huntly, who became one of the most powerful noble families in Scotland. The family's original seat was at Gordon Castle, of which no trace remains, but the village name preserves the memory of their presence.
