About Richmond
- Richmond Castle, managed by English Heritage, is one of the best-preserved Norman castles in England. The castle was built shortly after the Norman Conquest by Alan Rufus, Count of Brittany, and the keep — built in the 12th century — is one of the finest in the country. The views from the top of the keep over the town and the River Swale are outstanding.

The market has been held in Richmond since the 12th century and is still held every Saturday. The market place is dominated by the Church of the Holy Trinity, which unusually contains shops built into its ground floor.
- The Georgian Theatre Royal, built in 1788, is one of the oldest working theatres in England and one of the best-preserved Georgian playhouses in the country. The theatre was restored in the 1960s and again in 2003 and continues to host a programme of drama, music, and comedy.
- Easby Abbey, a mile east of Richmond on the banks of the Swale, is a ruined Premonstratensian monastery founded in 1155. The ruins include the refectory, the gatehouse, and the church, and the setting on the riverbank is one of the most beautiful in the Yorkshire Dales.
