About Duddingston
- Duddingston Kirk, which dates from the twelfth century, is one of the oldest churches in continuous use in Scotland. The churchyard contains a watch-house built in the early nineteenth century to deter body-snatchers, who were active in Edinburgh during the period when the city's medical schools created a demand for cadavers. The church also has a jougs — an iron collar used to punish wrongdoers — attached to its gate.

The inn is said to have been a favourite of Mary Queen of Scots and James VI, and its skittle alley — one of the oldest in Scotland — has been in continuous use for centuries. The pub's name derives from the sheep's head broth that was once a local delicacy.
