About Ormesby
- Ormesby Hall, a mid-18th century mansion house owned by the National Trust, is one of the finest Georgian houses in Teesside. The house was built for the Pennyman family and contains a remarkable collection of furniture, paintings, and decorative arts. The stable block, designed by John Carr of York, is particularly fine, and the walled garden has been restored to its original Victorian character.
- The parish church of St Cuthbert in Ormesby dates from the 12th century and contains some fine Norman stonework. The church is one of the oldest buildings in the Middlesbrough area and is a Grade II* listed structure. The churchyard contains the graves of several generations of the Pennyman family, who owned Ormesby Hall for over 200 years.
- Ormesby village green, at the heart of the original settlement, is one of the best-preserved village greens in Teesside. The green is surrounded by older houses and the parish church, and the duck pond at its centre is a popular gathering place for local residents. The green has been the focal point of the village community for centuries.
- The Pennyman family, who owned Ormesby Hall from the 18th century until the National Trust took it over in 1961, were one of the most prominent families in Teesside.
