About Guisborough
- Guisborough Priory, founded in 1119 by Robert de Brus — ancestor of Robert the Bruce, King of Scotland — was one of the wealthiest Augustinian monasteries in England. The priory was dissolved by Henry VIII in 1540, and only the magnificent east end arch survives, but it is one of the finest examples of Early English Gothic architecture in the north of England. The priory is managed by English Heritage.
- Guisborough Forest, on the northern slopes of the Cleveland Hills above the town, is managed by the Forestry Commission and offers a network of walking and mountain biking trails. The forest is one of the most popular outdoor recreation areas in Teesside, and the views from the high ground above the forest take in the Tees Valley and the North Sea.
